Hong Kong "Ask Ting Ting"??

Hi,

I am flying to HK next week, I did a lot of research about internet, simcard, sightseeing etc... so I found "Ask Ting Ting" a mobile guide on a rental Smartphone... it sounds really pratical, with free internet, free calls, navigation and videos and stuff, but I am just not sure.... so I thought I ask here about it before I might rent it. Anybody here who rented it before? What are the good and bad sides? Is the internet fast?

Thanks guys!

Manny

Hi Manny, yes I know this

Hi Manny,

yes I know this mobile guide. A colleague rented it during a business trip to HK. Afterwards he told me more than one time, that if I go to HK, I have to rent this guide, too. The internet is really fast and the videos seem to be amazing, same with the recommendations. So I guess this guide must be a useful tool for discovering Hong Kong. But if you rented it I would be curious to know if you are that enthusiastic as he was :-)

positive experience

Hi again :-)

Thank you for the links, this was interesting to read even as I am back home again. Before my trip I was not fully convinced as you know, but now I am really happy that I gave it a try!

My experience: I made my booking on the website, then I got immediatly a confirmation email. I could chose in my booking the pick up time. Then they send me an email that they will store it for me at the reception desk and I could pick it up when I had time.

I unwrapped it and switched it on. "Ting Ting" the girl from the video guide appeared in a nice welcoming video. The interface is really well structured and easy to use. I tried the walking tours, the phone calls (local and international), wifi and of course I used the maps all the time. The recommendations for shopping, restaurants etc.. were nice but I was more into sightseeing, so I visited all sights of "Ting Tings Top 10" to get a good overview....(but I will come back to see more :-D)

One short word about the service: On the first day I wanted to know how I can get the pictures of the virtual postcards I sent, so I called the hotline. There was no voice mashine or something typical for hotlines, I talked to a friendly guy who explained me everything and made sure I am happy with my Ting Ting.

After my rental period ended I put it back in the envelop and brought it down to the reception desk. So everything went pretty well :-)
